Occupational Therapy at FLA

    Occupational Therapy (OT)

Working on making life accessible and achievable!

Occupational Therapists (OT's) are experts in spending one-on-one time with clients, to gain a full and clear understanding of their needs. Our OT team is committed to this approach, with every assessment and with every appointment.

OT can provide support to those in need of equipment, resources and other techniques or input to live to the fullest. Or, more simply put - lead a 'Fuller Life'. This can include assessing someone's ability to perform self-care, mobilise around their home, access their home and amenities safely and anything else that grants clients independent and quality of life.

Our OT's can provide supports under several funding types...

    NDIS

Working with people that are living with a form of disability is an area of work our OT's are proficient in. We will begin by getting to know each client during a detailed initial assessment which may involve a client, their carer, support worker or family member. Following this, we may produce a thorough report which contains information on someone's abilities, difficulties, needs and more. Following this, we will agree on goals and a treatment plan moving forward, to help begin the journey. In addition to this, our OT's will often prescribe equipment or assistive technology to further advance someone towards their goals.

    Home Care Packages (HCP)

A HCP is designed to support a senior citizen with care, equipment and resources to live a safe and meaningful life. Once in place, the HCP can also be used to engage and OT to, to assess someone's mobility and level of ability to manage their own care needs. Following an assessment, and OT can often prescribe equipment to help make safe, or make able someone in maintaining their own care and to access their own home and it's facilities.

    Short-Term Restorative Care Program (STRC)

Exactly how it sounds, the STRC enables clients to engage health professionals and other services to help bring about a quick improvement to their recovery, or return home from respite or hospital. OT is expertly situated to support people quickly with obtaining equipment and safety measures such as grab rails, toilet frames, ramps and other resources to ensure a client is optimally cared for.

OT, like other Allied Health professions, looks at all aspects of a persons life. We will always be careful to pay close attention to the finest details when discussing care needs. Get in touch today to find out more about our OT service, and if we can support you, your client or family member.
