About the Profession
What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational Therapy is a healthcare profession focused on helping people function more safely and independently in everyday life. It supports individuals to manage daily activities, maintain participation in meaningful routines, and reduce barriers that affect comfort, confidence, and wellbeing.
Our occupational therapists assess the person, their goals, and their environment to provide practical, tailored solutions. This may include strategies, equipment, environmental recommendations, and support to improve daily living at home and in the community.
Conditions We Treat
What conditions do Occupational Therapists help with?
Our occupational therapists support people living with disability to improve safety, independence, function, and participation in everyday life. We provide practical, goal-focused support to help individuals build capacity, manage daily tasks more confidently, and reduce barriers at home and in the community.
Occupational Therapy may assist with:
- Everyday living skills such as showering, dressing, toileting, eating, and meal preparation
- Mobility, transfers, and moving safely within the home or community
- Reduced independence with self-care and daily routines
- Sensory, cognitive, physical, or psychosocial challenges affecting function
- Fine motor difficulties and hand use in everyday tasks
- Fatigue management and coping with daily demands
- Emotional or behavioural challenges affecting routine and participation
- Environmental barriers impacting safety and independence
- Assistive technology, equipment, and home modification needs
- Building participation in home, community, education, or meaningful daily activities
Access & Funding
How do I get Occupational Therapy?
There are a number of ways to access Occupational Therapy, depending on your needs, eligibility, and funding pathway. Some clients access services through approved funding programs, while others choose to book privately. If you are unsure which option is right for you, our team can help guide you.
NDIS
If you are self-managed or plan-managed, you may be able to access Occupational Therapy through your NDIS funding, depending on your plan and goals. We can work with you, your family, and support team to provide therapy, assessments, equipment recommendations, and functional support aligned with your needs.
Home Care Package
Older adults may be able to access Occupational Therapy through My Aged Care and the Support at Home program after assessment and approval. If you already have Support at Home funding in place, you can ask your home care provider to arrange Occupational Therapy with our team.
Medicare
Some clients may be able to access Occupational Therapy with a referral from their GP under a chronic condition management plan. As Medicare rebates for allied health are limited, community-based appointments may include a gap payment in addition to the rebate.
Private Health
You can book Occupational Therapy with us directly, with no GP referral required in most cases. Depending on your policy, you may also be eligible to claim a rebate through your private health insurer.
Other Funding
Occupational Therapy is also available through DVA, WorkCover, TAC, and other approved funding pathways, subject to confirmation from our team.
Funding & Support
National Disability Insurance Scheme
Fuller Life Australia supports NDIS participants with mobile, community-based allied health services designed around their goals, functional capacity, and everyday life. We work closely with participants and their support networks to provide practical, person-centred therapy that builds independence, supports participation, and helps make daily life safer, easier, and more meaningful at home and in the community.
What is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an Australian Government program that provides funding to eligible people with disability for reasonable and necessary supports related to their disability. Its purpose is to help people build capacity, improve independence, participate in everyday life, and work towards their personal goals.
Who can get funding?
- are aged 0 to 64 years when you apply
- live in Australia and meet the NDIS residency requirements
- have a disability caused by a permanent impairment that significantly affects your ability to take part in everyday activities
- or meet the early intervention requirements, where supports are likely to reduce your future need for support or improve long-term outcomes
- can provide the required identity and supporting evidence as part of the application process
